Democrat Doug Jones won the Alabama Senate Seat last night, beating Republican Roy Moore 49.9% to 48.4% in the race to fill a senate seat that was previously held by Jeff Sessions last year.
Many Americans have been anxiously watching this special election because of Moore’s lingering sexual harassment allegations and the his suggestion of the removal of certain constitutional amendments , as well as his wife’s own comments in regards to race.
This win was a big one for the Democratic Party, whom had not won a senate race in that particular state in 15 years – since 1992. President Trump of course took to Twitter to congratulate Jones, who’s win he blamed partially on write-in votes. There was a noticeably increased turnout by metro and urban areas of the state for this election. The president had also previously voiced support for Moore in the last few weeks leading into the election, suggesting that Moore would be better than any democrat because of his stance on protecting borders and supporting the military.
Democrats now hold 25 seats in the senate and are still three shy from gaining control of the senate. As of the time of this post, Roy Moore has yet to concede.
Some well-known notable responses to this election were in Doug Jones’s favor, just read some of their comments found on social media below:

650,000 people voted for Roy Moore.
He damn near won.
He said slavery was the last time America was great.
He said Muslims shouldn’t be allowed to serve in Congress.
He said homosexuality should be a crime.
He’s accused of being a child molester.

Doug Jones wins!! In spite of suppression efforts. In spite of Trump. In spite of Bannon. In spite of fear mongering. Virginia, New Jersey, Alabama = trend. See you in 2018 —- in every race in every part of this great nation.

Last night Alabama re-taught us the true lesson of Selma:
Massive voter registration & mobilization is the ultimate antidote for massive voter suppression.
