For many people, the idea of being “blessed” is somehow automatically thought to be physical rewards in our lives. Whether it be a brand new car, a rewarding career, living in a beautiful home, having access to more money than you can count – when some people come across situations like these, they may think that the person in question is by all means “blessed.” No one is wrong to think or to believe that such successes are indeed blessings from God. What is not right is when individuals who are having a hard time in life, when nothing seems to be going the way that they want, or when they start to compare their lives to non-believers that are more successful than they are start to feel, think or believe that they have not been blessed at all. Despite what you may be going through, you are still blessed! But, in what other ways are we all blessed, other than the ways people deem obvious?
Lets take a look at Matthew 5: 3-12, and read what Jesus had to say about those who are blessed during the sermon of the mount:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Being blessed is so much more then worldly possessions that you can acquire, it is God’s favor and protection. Even if you don’t believe in God or that Jesus died and rose from the grave for your sins, you have still been covered by his grace that extends to everyone in the world until of course Judgement Day. Isn’t that amazing? What is even more amazing is that those who are Saved have grace as well as eternal blessings and inheritance waiting for them that far exceed anything that they would ever receive here on earth. On the other hand, if you are following Jesus Christ or calling yourself a christian only to guarantee yourself earthy treasures and what you believe to be the perfect life, you may be surprised how that goes.
We all need a Savior. It is inevitable that at some point we will all experience loss. We will all experience pain, heartache, illness and physical death. But if we can build a loving relationship with the Lord, keeping our trust in God despite what happens in our lives, and if we place all of our belief in him and in his promises for us, it will be easier for us not to lose hope and it will also be easier to recognize how blessed we really are, even during circumstances that are challenging for us to experience. Through the complete work of Jesus Christ we are truly blessed. In fact, we are more than blessed. We are greatly loved, highly favored, forgiven and redeemed.
